Round and round in circles getting absolutely nowhere, just growing older. There is nowhere to go of course.
Things that go round in circles have no destination, like horses on a fairground roundabout.
Once upon a time, I did think I was heading somewhere, but now I’m not so sure. In fact, I’m getting dizzier. I see no reason for being here. I have yet to meet someone who can supply me with satisfactory answers. When I ask people ‘‘What do you think we should be about on this earth?’’ I request that they avoid giving me a ‘‘religious’’ answer. It’s not because I have anything against religion, it is just that I am now finding that ‘‘religious’’ answers do not satisfy me - though I am not so arrogant a fool as not to believe that they satisfy them.
The scientists are now telling us that we are probably no more than materialisations produced from some sort of energy sources. I believe they call them ‘‘waves’’ or some such thing. Aparently there are 37 of them. They say that one day we could be returned to those original energy sources. They claim that they themselves can transform matter back to a pure energy form and vice versa. However, they cannot yet explain where the energy source came from, how it itself was created.
So here I am, on my earthly carousel, wondering what I am doing here, where I fit into it all? It may be a dubious blessing to be able to verbalise these thoughts. Perhaps I would be happier without them. But as I can do so, this leads me to make a suggestion. Could it be that this Energy Wave (or Waves) contained within itself the power to produce material beings that could express its own latent consciousness? In which case, was it itself conscious before it produced conscious beings, or did it have to produce conscious creatures to do this job for it?
Was it depending on its end-products (we human beings) in order to realize itself? For that matter, does it think at all, or is it like a blind man groping about with his stick trying to find the right path, the right mix that will do the trick?
It seems to me from what I have written that maybe I do have a job to do. Is my mission to contribute to an on-going universal debate, one that started with the evolution of consciousness? A debate, not about how many angels fit on a pin-head, interesting though that may be, but about the meaning of existence. So far as I know, no-one has come up with the complete answers, so my contribution is as important as everyone else’s. I must talk and also I must listen. I have heard the contribution of, for example, the Christian religion. It is very interesting but unfortunately it claims that with its coming into being 2000 years ago the debate ended. A pity. It seems to have got trapped up a ‘‘no through road’’, I can hear some of my readers murmering, ‘‘Ah, shades of de Chardin! The Universal Consciousness!’’ Perhaps, but I find it difficult to believe that this universal Consciousness is heading towards some point where future humans will be able to say, ‘‘At last, we’ve arrived at the final solution’’. No, I believe the debate will go on to infinity because it is about an infinitely mysterious subject. Will it end when consciousness ends? Does it continue beyond the grave?
A last thought. We may have smiled when we learned that Prince Charles talks to his flowers but many are now beginning to realize that messages are coming at us thick and fast from other, non-verbal, non-conscious parts of creation. All created beings contribute to the debate, we’re not the only ones. Maybe we should begin to listen with closer attention to what they have to ‘‘say’’. After all, words are not the only ways of communicating.
