Our next meeting is a face-to-face one at the Friends’ Meeting House, School Lane, Liverpool on Saturday 15th March, 1 – 4pm. Please note early start! The theme for the in-person meeting is a poetry one: Please bring a favourite poem to promote and discuss. All welcome (as are any refreshments to keep us going!)

We have also agreed another Zoom meeting for Saturday 26th April, 2 – 4pm with a short break mid-way through.

If you would like to come and haven’t already responded to Penny, please contact enquiries@sofn.uk

The discussion topic at our Zoom meeting on 18th January was the Israel-Gaza Ceasefire, a particularly apposite one. We had the benefit of a screen-share map during the meeting showing the encroachment of Israeli occupation on once Palestinian territory on the West Bank then Gaza, then further detailed maps supplied by Paul after the meeting from a talk he had given last year about the region’s history. While we all wished the ceasefire well it was a case of hope without much optimism.

We have put together a list of 10 broadly outlined topics to address at future meetings, in no particular order. Apart from the theme for our March meeting all other topics are as yet to be assigned. Here is our diverse list:

  • The benefits of battery storage
  • Corruption in the hierarchy of the Cof E – Sam Howson and YouTube videos
  • Does Nonrealism have a contribution to make to spirituality?
  • Developing an artistically abstract response to the natural world
  • Sharing a personally favourite music choice with the group
  • Another look at pilgrimage
  • Questions (in a hat) seeking brief answers from others
  • Philosophising in Islamic societies
  • AI – our experience and views so far

Books recommended by the group:

  • “Band of Angels – The forgotten world of early Christian women” by Kate Cooper
  • “Orbital” by Samantha Harvey.
