SOF News: Faith and Hope in SOF Charity

David Boulton SOF 41 / May 2000 SOF NEWS Faith and hope in SOF charity After extensive consultation and delays, the Charity Commission has now confirmed that the application for registration as a charity by the Trustees of the Sea of Faith Development Trust has been passed for final registration.

Thanks to unstinting work for over two years by Miles Howarth, the Trust is now in business for real!

Our aims in pursuing this timeconsuming exercise are that charitable status provides potential donors with a form of guarantee that funds will be used for the stated purposes of the Trust and that tax refunds for gifts, covenants and legacies can be obtained for the benefit of Sea of Faith.

The Objects of the Trust are “to advance the education of the public in religious studies with particular reference to religious faith seen as a human creation”.

The Trust hopes that as funds become available it will be able to further the objects of the Trust within and outside the Network through schemes for public lectures, conferences and seminars, the production of development material in any medium and research into particular issues.

The present Trustees are Miles Howarth, Stephen Mitchell, David Paterson, Ronald Pearse, John Pearson and Patti Whaley. Their immediate task will be to raise funds and invite donations and they will announce their plans soon. Meanwhile the Charity Commissioners’ acceptance of our application is a considerable step forward in furthering the work of Sea of Faith.
