PREVIEWING THE 1995 CONFERENCE The 1995 Sea of Faith Conference, to be held at Leicester University from July 25 to 27, will look at ‘‘The Implications of Religious Faith as a Human Creation’’.
On the first day, this theme will be pursued in plenary sessions, with Don Cupitt and Bishop John Spong as principal speakers. On the second day, Conference will divide into three *‘strands”’, one on the implications for theology (Christian and other world faiths), one on the implications for rituals, worship and symbolism, and one on the implications for our politics and social action, with particular reference to ecological and “‘green’’ issues.
On the final day, Conference will again meet in plenary session to draw these strands together.
Below, the theme of each strand is outlined by those who have been given responsibility for running it. This may help Conference attenders choose in due course which strand they would most like to participate in.
Not only... but also...
The Conference will also have its own ‘“‘fringe’’ events, not necessarily directly connected with the main ‘‘Implications’’ theme or the strands.
Tuesday night will see the ‘‘Market Place’’, where anyone can put up a stall to advertise or attract attention to a special interest: anything from an SoF knitting group to SoF Anarchists! Bring your own literature, posters or whatever.
Wednesday afternoon’s AGM will be followed by short talks, discussions and workshops which don’t fit casily into the strands. If you would like to contribute a talk, or lead a discussion or workshop, drop a line to John Edmondson, 134 Newmarket, Louth, Lincs LN11 9EN.
Proposals will first be offered to strand leaders where appropriate, but where there isn’t an obvious fit they will be scheduled for the ‘‘fringe’’ session. Slots will be of 45 minutes duration, but double slots of 90 minutes can be arranged for workshops or drama/groups.
If you haven’t yet booked, do so now - or prepare to be disappointed. Booking details and forms from Pamela Donohue, 14 Kenwood Road, Sheffield S7 INP.
NB: You don’t have to be a member to attend!
