This talk aims to explore why Derrida said he prayed daily - even "I pray all the time" - while Cupitt, for his part, said even though he still sometimes did pray he "shouldn't do it". The answer will throw light on key differences between Cupitt and Derrida; differences which may lead the network to explore post-Cupittean themes and thinkers.
Dr Philip Knight is a retired teacher of Religious Studies. His PhD was on Sea of Faith religious non-realism in the light of the thought of John Dewey and Richard Rorty. He has published a number of articles and has chapters in 4 books. He is interested in the life and work of Etty Hillesum and, in the last 10 years, developed an interest in deconstruction and theology.
