Given modern knowledge about ourselves and the universe we inhabit, Steve offers a framework in which to explore our life’s significance and meaning. To help absorb what is outlined, two short experiential opportunities will be provided for you to explore your life in different contexts. For this purpose, a large pad (A4 say) would be most useful to have to hand for notes to yourself. Strongly recommended!
After being a URC minister for 14 years, Steve worked as a social worker and as a psychotherapist practitioner and teacher. He has written about (and for) each of these arenas as well as poetry and other writings. He quit the formal ministry in 1977, largely because, any success in bringing to life religious concepts within church walls, failed to reach those outside in any meaningful way.
Thereafter, Steve has seen his mission as including the exploration of a language that could speak more plainly about ‘things that matter’ without resorting to religious language that can be a stumbling block to an increasing number of people. A possible tool then, for Sea of Faith members to use in conversations with others. He was a member of the Steering Group and, having written a book utilising both religious and secular concepts on human journeying, he is currently writing another on what being human is essentially all about.
